Introducing the Hogpiano Cup for Term 2

Introducing the Hogpiano Cup for Term 2.

For the uninitiated, the Hogpiano Cup is a fun event that my piano students engage in each term. They score points for their practise & achievements each week. The points get tallied on the scoreboard so that everyone can see how the competition is developing. It was very exciting last term, with the eventual winner being Dobby House, & the highest individual points scorer being Matthew. Matthew & the Dobby House members were all highly excited to recieve their own Hogpiano Cup trophy. Many of the children this term are not only trying to be in the winning house, but also to improve on their Term 1 individual points score.

The 3 Houses are:
Crookshanks House -  with Cameron, Alexander, Joseph & Renee.

Dobby House -  with Matthew, Demi, Annie & Sarah.

Hedwig House -  with Tia, Alice, Kurtis, Catherine & Talitha.

At the end of week 1 Dobby House was in the lead with 380 points, followed by Hedwig House with 218 & Crookshanks House with 150 points. Last term proved that the competition is not over until it's over. In other words, the leaderboard changed almost every day of the term!  It was VERY exciting & was a STRONG MOTIVATION to practise between lessons.

Added to this, was the excitement of developing SMART Goals that most of the children engaged in with gusto. It was wonderful to see them working out their own goals, developing a plan for how they'd get there, & then feeling the sense of achievement when they reached their goals. They also scored extra points for their house when they achieved a SMART Goal. Many children found this a great way to organise themselves, but also to practise being BRAVE in setting themselves a challenge.

One mother said, 'It's not every little 6 year old boy in the world who has a SMART Goal!'
