Separation Anxiety - When It Hurts to Leave

I wrote the following article for publication in Little Bitz Magazine in Sept-Oct 2005.  www.littlebitz.com.au   For those parents who are looking for some individual help, I offer Individual Counselling for families. Separation Anxiety is pertinent this week as many parents are struggling to help their children re-start the preschool/daycare routine. Don't give up! There is help.

3 Kids Went Exploring..

3 kids went exploring at the beach. Their goal was to find a cave at the base of the bluff. They raced off down the beach with great excitement - 3 happy cousins aged 12 & 13 years.

What did they find???

The 13 year old boy returned first, with a large graze on his chest. His story was that there was no cave to be seen & all he found were cuts on his feet (the graze on his chest apparently was unimportant). On second thoughts....he did find a tennis ball.

The 12 year old girl followed behind, looking slightly bored. Her story was that there was no cave to be seen & all she found were cuts on her feet.

Dawdling slowly behind came the 12 year old boy. His story was that there was indeed a cave but that it was full of sand. However there were rocks to climb on & he found some TREASURE!!!

We all make 'stories' in this life. Depending on our world view, those stories are often about discovery or disappointment. It's a matter of perspective. If we look up.....we see the sky. If we look down.....we see our feet. Where are you looking right now? What perspective do you have?  Do you find 'treasure' or 'cut feet' in your days?
Isn't it a beautiful day????

Depression & Matthew Murphy - what helped?

School Holidays - Are the kids bored???

What does it mean when the kids are bored??  As an adult, I can probably remember what it felt like 'being bored'. 'There's nothing to do' is a bit like 'There's nothing to eat' or 'No one likes me'.

These statements make me remember the story of the 'glass half full'. Is it half full, or half empty? Is there 'nothing to do' or are there heaps of options? Is there 'nothing to eat' or is there lots to eat if one only bends their back & looks lower in the fridge or pantry? And does 'no one like me', or is it more the truth that 'I am liked (have friends)'?

Food for Thought

Sunlight is the healthiest food you can consume all day. Have you had an adequate serving today??

Self-Care

Waking up without the alarm - when did you do that last??  It's one of my favourite indulgences...

Enjoying the moment.....laying in bed with a smile....knowing you have to get up....but not rushing. It's a bit like heaving the wet washing out to the clothes line while appreciating the lovely warmth  & glow of the sun on your face as you rush out the back door.

Both were my experience this morning!  Because I felt so warm inside I then decided to take a raggy bathmat off the line & place over my worms as an extra protection from the heat.  I also rewarded myself with a wander over to the little green dark corner of my backyard that 18 months ago was a dry denuded square of dirt & weeds.  Now its a flourishing green glade that right now is saying hello in a fiery spectacularly red way with beautiful big red flowers that glow in the filtered afternoon light.   They give me a lovely warm bright glow deep inside my soul.....& then I know I'm OK.

End of a big day..

*groan*   After 1am (yes, I will have to try tomorrow to work out the funny timings on this blog  :S) & I've had just about enough for one day. Very tired. Working in the office tomorrow & I really will have to sit at the piano for some practice tomorrow. My pieces & fingers need a workout.

Further awakenings..

Just back from seeing Nick Bowditch speak at Toronto Multipurpose Centre on using Social Media to create a Marketing Plan. WOW - blows my mind!  This whole on-line thing is exciting....when I'm not completely & utterly confused.  :))

Entering the cloud..

Last night I was told that there is another cloud other than the type that brings us rain. What a new awakening! And here I thought that it was all about surfing...lol...hang around, watch & weep at my efforts to improve the technological side of my brain.  :)
